Towards a Clustering Approach to Support Real-Time Communication in Ad-Hoc Wireless Networks

Marcelo M. SobralLeandro Buss Becker

A real-time MAC protocol for mobile wireless ad-hoc networks must transmit frames in bounded time, and adapt quickly to topology changes. Our recently proposed HCT MAC protocol presents a solution for this problem by providing a TDMA-like medium access within nodes agglomerations called clusters. This paper addresses the problems related to clusters dynamic selforganization. More specifically, we present a new approach to establish the clusters that takes into account the quality of communication among the membernodes. The paper includes encouraging simulation results that show the performance of our solution applied to grid and random topology networks.
