Recent advances in wireless sensor systems allow the deployment and the access of a large diversity of sensor-based applications, such as real-time monitoring and controlling. In this heterogeneous environment, the efficient control of the battery consumption and of the communication overhead is essential. This paper proposes and evaluates an architecture to minimize signaling overhead and battery consumption, while keeping the end-to-end IPv6 connectivity in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). The evaluation is done through simulation and prototype experiments to analyze its impact regarding bandwidth and battery consumption.
