This work presents an extensive evaluation of the filtering effect thatoccurs in proxy servers organized as a hierarchy of caches. Using a recentlyproposed model called ADF (Aggregation, Disaggregation and Filtering) andentropy as a metric for Web traffic characterization, we present an evaluationof the effects that the locality of reference of request streams suffers when passingthrough a hierarchy of caches. Moreover, we consider the use of averageentropy for the comparison of reference locality among streams and we presentthe necessary information so that entropy can be dynamically calculated.
