This paper presents the results of a systematic literature review on software effort estimation applied to distributed software development projects. Because the results did not explicitly explore effort estimation within distributed development, the paper also presents the results of interviews conducted with software project managers in order to understand the particularities of the effort estimation process and techniques in the context of distributed projects.
