One of the main challenges faced by distributed software development teams is the lack of perceived distance among project team members. The lack of perception is frequently caused by factors beyond the physical distance, such as communication problems and cultural differences. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the usage of a model to quantitatively calculate the perceived distance within distributed software development teams, in a project developed with teams in India and Brazil. We present how the model was applied, the analysis of the results found, and the influence of this model in the management of distributed teams.
