Collaboration and technological resources exploration has greatly improved in scientific environments, due to the availability of a great number of computing services in the internet. However, this distributed scenario typically requires intensive data transfer between internet servers, which impacts the execution time of scientific workflows. This paper proposes an approach for managing distributed data in bioinformatics workflows, in order to improve the performance of workflow re-executions through data transfer reduction. The paper presents the proposed architecture, its implementation and the results of a set of simulations showing the benefits of our approach.
