The Language LinF for Fractal Specification

Fernando M. Q. PereiraLeonardo T. RollaCristiano G. RezendeRodrigo L. Carceroni

This article presents the language LinF for L-System specifications. L-Systems are formal string rewriting systems introduced in 1968 by the botanist Aristid Lindenmayer that are used to model fractal images. LinF allows the definition of three-dimensional fractals and stochastic fractals. Together with the LinF definition this paper presents the implementation of cFleo, an OpenGL-based system that generates fractal images from LinF specifications. Results obtained through the LinF formalism show the ease of use and generality of the developed tools with respect to the existing literature.
