One of the great challenges faced by distributed software development teams is the lack of perceived distance among project team members. The lack of perception is frequently caused by factors beyond the physical distance, such as communication problems and cultural differences. In this paper, we present a model to quantitatively calculate the perceived distance in distributed software development teams, based on a conceptual model. Preliminary results indicate the possibility to use the model in industry to help and guide the management of distributed stakeholders.
