In order to meet the quality of service demanded by a growing number of online customers, e-commerce services need to be of scalable. This paper introduces the concept of e-commerce representatives, as a means of scaling the performance of e-commerce services. E-representatives are programs that execute on a cache server or at nearby machines, acting as transaction intermediators. The implementation model proposed uses a three component architecture, which will be partially replicated in the cache server. The results obtained by a prototype are promissing, since e-representatives reduced clients latency by up to 45% and communication traffic by 80%.
