In this article, we derive a global scaling parameter for network multifractal traffic. Through this parameter, we use the effective bandwidth concept and statistical network calculus to propose performance bounds for high-speed networks. Our performance bound approach was evaluated by simulations with Internet and Ethernet traffic traces, verifying its efficiency in capturing the byte loss probability and the mean buffer occupation. The bounds obtained for the byte loss probability was shown to be tighter than that given by the large deviations theory.
