Performance modeling is an important issue to capacity planning and overload control of Web servers. This paper presents a model for workload generation of Web servers based on the classification of the server files in groups.The proposed model was validated with data of 1998 World Cup Web server and with more recent data from IRCache proxy servers. It is also presented a computational simulation showing the model capability to generate self-similar traffic. The proposed model show good perspectives in future research, mainly in capacity planning and techniques to improve Web servers performance.
