Much work in the area of optical networks has considered the use of wavelength converters: if a node of a network contains a wavelength converter, any path that passes through this node may change its wavelength, allowing better utilization of available wavelengths. Since converters are a scarce resource, they must be placed strategically over the network. In this work, we propose a set of "Sequential Weighted" heuristics, which take into consideration the already placed converters before place a new one over the network. A performance evaluation shows that, when compared to existing heuristics, Sequential Weighted heuristics can obtain gains related to the general block probability of the network after converters placement.
