Simulation is an important methodology for the evaluation of computing systems. Fault injection, on its turn, is a technique that allows reliable systems to be evaluated, and helps to understand how these systems behave under faults. This paper draws from those two areas to present Simmcast-FT, a framework for the simulation of fault tolerant distributed systems. It presents the conceptual design of the system, defining how each type of fault of the adopted model is mapped onto fundamental components, namely Node, Path and Group, of Simmcast. The paper presents also an elegant and flexible approach for the specification of fault scenarios, based on the specification of activation and deactivation rules.
