IEEE 802.11 standard for media access control, used in wireless networks, is widely used nowadays. Therefore, protocol efficiency is fundamental so that developed applications can use it with no restrictions. In this article, we analyze the 802.11 networks fragmentation technique and propose two adaptive algorithms to optimize protocol efficiency, according to channel's bit error rate. The results show that the mechanisms improve channel utilization, increasing the network throughput.
