PowerLine communications are receiving special attention since they use an already available and ubiquitous infrastructure. This article proposes a mechanism where every station that wants to access the medium increments its contention window after sensing another transmission presence. The proposal is capable to improve the throughput in the medium access control sublayer, defined by the HomePlug standard, reducing the number of collisions in the network. We compared our mechanism and HomePlug through simulation modules implemented and an expression derived. The analysis verified that the improvement is independently from the packets size, the transmission rates and the number of transmitters.
