This paper presents our experience in integrating the FT-CORBA and UMIOP specifications in a single middleware plataform. This integration model defines a large spectrum of middleware support for distributed objects group communication, which was used to develop an active replication model for FT-CORBA. The algorithms for reliable and atomic multicast needed by this model were developed based on FT-CORBA and UMIOP object models. These algorithms are presented using theoretical concepts for expressing their main features. At last, our FT-CORBA and UMIOP integration is compared to related experiences described in the literature and other active replication protocols.
