Given their distinghishing characteristics, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) require tailored intrusion detection systems. However, their design and implementation are challenging because of the resource constraints. In this paper, we take the first steps in characterizing a model for intrusion detection in WSNs, propose a modular, extensible and reconfigurable arquitecture for intrusion detection systems in these networks, and identify sources of hidden costs in deployments of such systems.
