The IEEE 802.11 is the main standard for WLANs and was designed for best effort services. Extensions to provide QoS guarantees are introduced in the IEEE 802.11e amendment. This paper evaluates the use of the DCF and HCCA methods, and the reference scheduler design presented in IEEE 802.11e,to provide firm real-time traffic guarantees and best effort traffic concurrently. Here, firm real-time guarantee means that message deadline violations implies in stopping the service been provided. Moreover, the paper describes the patch developed by the authors to support concurrent HCCA and DCF traffic delivery. An analysis of the results from the performed simulations is presented and discussed.
