A NEW LOW POWER EXPLORATION MECHANISM BASED ON DESIGN OF EXPERIMENTS (DOE) AND TWO-LEVEL HIERARCHIES

Tuning cache architectures in platforms for embeddedapplications can dramatically reduce energyconsumption. This paper presents an optimizationmechanism based on Design of Experiments (DoE) foradjusting two-level cache memory hierarchy in order toreduce energy consumption of embedded applications.DoE is a technique used to plan experiments and in thiswork it was adapted to architecture exploration problem.Preliminary results for 6 applications from Mibenchbenchmark suite show an average reduction of about 6%in the energy consumption for data caches and it hasrevealed simpler with low computational cost, whencompared to existing heuristics.
