The union of simulation with fault injection allows the evaluation of a complex system when it is subjected to faults, allowing the use of an abstract model of this system. Simmcast is a simulation framework with great extensibility,and SimmFI is an extension that aims to provide support for fault injection in the simulated distributed system. This paper discusses architectural and implementation aspects of SimmFI, with emphasis on the fault injection mechanisms as well as activation and deactivation of faults. A test set was run to evaluate the proper behaviour of the implementation.
