This paper discusses the impact of the variability of workloads modeled by the Pareto distribution in the performance of the computer systems. Results for P/M/1, M/P/1, and P/P/1 queues are presented. P stands for Pareto distribution. This analysis is based on response time and slowdown metrics and it is done by simulation.
