Traffic Lights Signaling Optimization as a Many-Objective Optimization Problem

These days different technologies are used in transport systems. In particular, there is an area that deals with the synchronization of traffic lights, where the main goal is to optimize measures found in traffic, usually correlated to the traffic flow, through the use of traffic simulators. Here, this problem is modelled as a Many-Objective Optimization Problem, optimizing six objective functions. For attaining this goal, a recent many-objective algorithm, NSGA- III, is adapted to problem. NSGA-III algorithm is evaluated through a series of experiments and compared to the multi-objective algorithm most explored in literature, NSGA-II. This set of experiments are conducted with the aid of a traffic simulator (SUMO).
