A metadata approach to represent and visualize sites on the Web

Ana Maria de Carvalho MouraCezar Simplicio Fernandes

One of the most crucial problems on the Web is directly related to the vast amount of available information and the limited search mechanisms provided to access it. Furthermore, the navigation process to locate and retrieve useful information is so long, that may cause the user to feel lost. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has been doing a huge effort in order to increase the Web semantics. The XML (eXtensible Markup Language), the RDF (Resource Description Framework) and the RDFS (Resource Description Framework Schema) represent some initiatives in this direction. Many interfaces and tools have been developed with the purpose of helping users to minimize the problem of disorientation on the Web. This work presents a set of portable tools to help users in the navigation process on the Web. It describes Web spaces as graphs in an XML-based format embedded in RDF.
