It is increasingly necessary that modern remote sensing satellites use data compression techniques onboard in order to handle images of even higher resolutions. The generation of large amount of data requires that compressors achieve high data rates (hundreds of megabits per second) to operate in real time. In that context, this paper presents a low complexity lossless compressor IP-Core, which was prototyped in FPGA, suitable for satellite images based on prediction and Golomb-Rice coding.
