MONITORAMENTO DO TRATAMENTO DE ÚLCERAS DE PERNA ATRAVÉS DO SOFTWARE IMAGEJ

This investigation shows a technique of image processing for monitoring the treatment of leg ulcers. The objective was to show the use of commercial digital camera and a public domain softwarefor the image analysis of leg ulcers during the treatment with low intensity ultrasound (LIUS) or 1% silver sulfadiazine cream. The venous leg ulcer have slow healing, representing a common illness with high treated cost. The ulcers were divided in two experimental groups. In the group 1 theulcers were treated with 1% silvers sulfadiazine cream. In the group 2 the ulcers were treated with LIUS. The image analysis quantified the parameters ulcer superficial area, the growing factors TGF? and VEGF and the iNOS enzyme. The ulcer images were taken at the beginning of treatment and every 15 days. The treatment time last 90 days. The images at the beginning of treatment and at the 45° day were used for carrying out the immunohistochemistry analysis. The ulcers healing area decreasedfaster when treated with LIUS. The synthesis of growth factors and enzyme was also higher in the ulcers treated with LIUS. The image analysis should be included in health public services for monitoring the treatment of leg ulcers.
