Effective communication has always been of fundamental importance for all kinds of projects. For software development projects, in particular, communication is a critical success factor. In spite of countless technologies and methodologies specifically focused on communication in software engineering projects, the difficulties persist. This paper discusses findings of a Systematic Review that examined research results published on this subject. These findings help understand how the issue of communication has been handled in software development projects, and the importance of this issue for both the scientific community and the software industry.
