The ever-increasing power of computersand hardware rendering systems has, to date, primarilymotivated the creation of visually rich and perceptuallyrealistic virtual environment (VE) applications.Comparatively very little effort has been expended on theuser interaction components of VEs. As a result, VE userinterfaces are often poorly designed and are rarelyevaluated with users. Although usability engineering is anewly emerging facet of VE development, user-centereddesign and evaluation in VEs as a practice still lags farbehind what is needed.
