This paper introduces a new approach enablingintuitive input of rotational data with low-costoptical sensors. Two devices are built, one fordesktop applications and a mobile wireless device foreverywhere use. The desktop variant, called Spinballmakes the virtual trackball a real device. The mobiledevice, called Soap3d uses a two-layered approachfor device casing, enabling closed hand control.Benefits and construction are illustrated and resultsof expert reviews are discussed.
