Mobile virtual environments can be developed using the Mobile 3D Graphics (M3G) API, suitable for the JME platform. Although new services and interactive applications using 3D graphics have already achieved a reasonable standard on the desktop computers, they do not exist for resource-constrained handheld devices yet. In this work, we developed an object-oriented framework for visualizing and navigating through virtual environments in a mobile setting. Based on this framework, an interactive application (a virtual shopping center) was also developed. Some of the functionalities implemented allow users to navigate through the virtual environment loaded from a remote server, find an optimal and collision-free path from one place to another, and obtain additional information on specific objects.
