Augmented Virtuality: Making the virtual world tangible

Priscilla RamsamyAdrian HaffegeeVassil Alexandrov

Where Virtual Environments (VE) define environments limitedto rendering virtual objects, augmented virtuality mergesthe VE with real physical objects. The need for users tobenefit from both the computer-generated environment andinteract with real world objects has triggered a growing interestin the design required to integrate sensory motor capabilitiessuch as those experienced in the physical setting. While using immersive VR systems would enhance the usersspatial, cognitive perception and experience, the integrationof sensorial feedback in such a VE would provide far morereal life and rewarding experiences.
