A Multimodal Framework for the Aided Exploration of Virtual Contents by Blind People

F. De FeliceF. RennaG. AttolicoA. Distante

In this paper, the on-going development of a multimodal framework for the fruition of different kinds of 3D contents by blind people is described. The architecture of the system and the structure of the input models (designed to handle different haptic devices and to dynamically and effectively exploit the particular features of each virtual model) are presented. The integrated haptic/acoustic interaction complemented by some implemented features (such as the definition of multimodal interactive objects, the progressive access to information and guided paths) allows visually impaired people to enhance their knowledge of the surrounding world in a very natural and effective way
