Content-Based search on decentralized architectures, such as Peerto-Peer (P2P) Digital Libraries (DL), differs from centralized search in manyaspects, including the dynamic behavior of peers and its heterogeneity in resourcescapacity. Evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency of such systemsis still an unresolved problem, as most of prior work either focus only on effectivenessor considers ideal scenarios. This paper evaluates the compromisebetween efficiency and effectiveness on P2P content-based search consideringseveral practical scenarios. It also presents and evaluates a replication strategywhich increases effectiveness of P2P search.
