Programming and maintaining WSN applications is typically a tediousand error-prone task. We discuss a model to minimize the difficulties ofdevelopment and reconfiguration of such applications. This model is based ona set of parametrized components and on a Finite State Machine, and allowsthe remote configuration of different applications over the same set of installedcomponents. To evaluate this idea, we built a component library based on the requirementsof different WSN applications. In this paper, we describe this libraryand, using a typical WSN application, evaluate its impact on the developmentprocess, and the ease of applying modifications to a running application. Wealso measure the additional impact of remote configuration on network activity.
