Most of Internet data traffic belongs to peer-to-peer file-sharing applications. One major concern of these application users is to find the safest source of a resource. Reputation protocols intend to solve this problem using nodes past experiences to find the best source of a resource. This article defines and evaluates the Role-Based Reputation Protocol (RBRP), a reputation protocol for peer-to-peer networks based on roles for a peer-to-peer system reputation values definition, classifying the nodes of a network based on these nodes behavior.
